An IPO scam is when a no-name company, usually a tech start-up, promises to totally DISRUPT and REVOLUTIONIZE whatever, issues themselves and their investors a boatload of stock which is of course is valued at BILLIONS, then proceeds to dump it all on corporate media hyped-up retail investors before it's revealed the company isn't actually making or doing shit. See: EV maker Rivian and that company that made that lunar lander that tipped over, in particular the price action around their IPOs.
