One thing I've been doing with various Western series that got terrible dubs in my country (or didn't get here at all) is to try and watch them up until they're objectively considered good, plus at best just the following bad series.
A couple of series I've been meaning to get around to are King of the Hill and Spongebob. From what I've seen, there's quite the number of seasons, but where exactly do they stop being interesting/worth watching?
Also, do you have other series that had a similar issue, where the good episodes stopped coming after a certain series?

Not >>380, but I agree on Spongebob. It's just a randumb comedy that is not anything special. Only people I see it appeal to are native English speakers for some reason. In my country Spongebob is a hot potato that TV stations get rid off after emitting two seasons at most and then replace it with Anime, European, old Cartoon Network, WB, or Fox animated series.
Most people who like Spongebob insist that first seasons are good and that show drops in quality after the first animated Film.

King of the Hill is good, nearly all episodes are at least decent, and there are no weak seasons. It's not like Simpsons where it just goes to shit at certain point.
randumb can be funny if it's memorable, but I see your point
speaking of the Simpsons, my country had a terrible dub that removed all of the wit in the writing and a lot of the references, which made me kind of hate the show, but even now after watching it raw it's more miss than a hit, except for some skits that I gotta imagine had the entire writing team in a laughing fit for hours, like that one episode where Homer is inexplicably a member of a barber shop quartet and Chief Wiggum gets replaced by Barney, the part where he gets angry at the television gets me every time

Spongebob was an acceptable cartoon to watch with your children. That's enough.
>>383 >Only people I see it appeal to are native English speakers for some reason. I think that's partially due to nostalgia.
>>380 No, early Spongebob was classic.

Is it better than Legend of Korra?

>>453 Haven't watched it but it's hard for me to imagine something worse that Korra, the show which kill the franchise and universe.
Elves don't have horns >b-but muh obscure european pottery carvings Save your excuses for hell
It's just pozzed fantasy. >muh multicultural n sheet complete with Kang and half-Nigga prince. This just gets an apparent lazy handwave from the elves exiling all the humans West making the humans abandon all racial/ethnic differences. >Dark magic is an obvious stand-in for the White Man's technology that unleashed global warming. The whole conflict between humans and elves is just another Avatar where the humans stand-in for White/Western civilization who get beat back by magical noble savages whose magic lets them work around Whitey's superior technology. >Our heroes are two traitorous princes and an elf assassin who get together on a quest in a rather forced way. >Elf Girl helps a dragon that torched a human town and gives some babble about ending a hate cycle. >The narrative is more sympathetic to elven actions than human ones and will depict elves who hate humans and act upon more sympathetic than the other way around ("You can't be racist against Whites"). >A dyke and mute general. >>535 >Compare this with ATLA where you get an understanding of the history and culture of each nation but there's a lot to explore still. Putting aside the obvious point that all the lands in TLA are Oriental (meaning there's no situations like the Kang), Aang being the Avatar meant it's in his job for him to visit all the lands and get involved in their affairs insofar it suited his role as Avatar. In Dragon Prince, there's nothing about the princes or elf's current occupations that requires them to travel around the world and get involved in the affairs of each land.
>>553 >dyke and mute general I was wondering if she was deaf or mute.
>>556 It doesn't matter. It's just Ehasz being a cuck and throwing in extra diversity in the setting ("SHE'S GHEY AND NOT TALKING").

Now that the show's over unless it gets a movie. What do you all make of it now?
I'm thinking of rewatching it. When I first saw some of the earlier episodes I wasn't that impressed. Then again I was a teenager in that phase of everything is shit. I've seen some other clips and it seems a lot funnier and smarter than I realized so I'd rewatch it to get a better perspective on it.

So are there any unironically good Netflix cartoons Anonymous 04/21/2020 (Tue) 04:28:53 No.555 [Reply] [Last]
Shieet like She-Ra and Castlevania are all Current Year garbage. Don't even want to bother with Big Mouth.
I'd have to go look tbh. I heard about MFKZ though I haven't seen it yet so I can't judge.

Amphibia thread - season 2 flavored Anonymous 04/21/2020 (Tue) 00:53:42 No.552 [Reply] [Last]
Let's get an Amphibia discussion going. How did you like season 1? What do you want to see in season 2? In what ways could season 1 have been improved upon?

Do you guys know of any other comics that have terrific art and inversely terrifyingly awful writing? Every time I read Immortal Hulk, the writers always manage to one-up themselves in terms of sheer fucking retardation and wokeness, trans rights yass queen!

>>479 oh wow there's someone else on this board. Thought you guys were dead for a while. Anyway, are they as stupid as gender neutral poly-amorous amoebas floating in dead space? Because you know, this is a Hulk comic?
>>480 Well they were till the CalArts soyed it up. Then the art and writing just became terrible.

For me I guess it would have to be All Star Batman and Robin where you have great art by Jim Lee and god awful writing by Frank Miller. Though I doubt it's worse than the modern stuff.

Primal Anonymous 10/09/2019 (Wed) 23:25:29 No.268 [Reply] [Last]
We're halfway into the season now. What are your thoughts on Primal so far?

>caveman is called Spear
>dino is called Fang, is a female
Will Spear fuck Fang?
Found out it came out today
Either they blew their load too early with the marketing or they focused their marketing outside the internet.
I'd guess more that there was very little marketing.

A week-long [AS] event is really hard to capture buzz around, so I think this was being carried by Genndy's name attached (why else would they call it Tartakovsky's Primal in marketing half of the time and not the other?)

I heard a rumour about a 2nd set of 5 episodes, so maybe this was the marketing run and they'll release it all together later on for better audience reach.
>>276 There's a director's commentary on adult swim where Genndy explains the relationship between the spider and the bats. Apparently they have a symbiotic relationship where the bats bring food and the spider webs it up to preserve it. Acting as a refrigerator for the bats. Before learning of this I thought the bats worshipped the spider as a god or something.
So what did you guys think of the recent zombie dino episode?

Seems to be generating a bit of interest around. What do you think?

Very well done art style and very polished visually. Reminiscent of Samurai Jack. Pacing needs to correspond more to characters rather than plot, but they're close. Dialogue is stiff because the writers aren't actually edgy, just trying to be (califags). voice acting is serviceable, singing is fantastic. Whichever writer is behind the idea of Radio Demon deserves a compliment, very well implemented visually and audibly. Again, only drawback is stilted dialogue.
>>476 >Pacing needs to correspond more to characters rather than plot Elaborate.
>giving a shit about gay ecksdee the show
So what do you guys think of that other show this chick made called Helluva Boss?
>>312 Not my cup of tea. The visuals are decent to pretty good but I don't like musicals and the dialogue tries too hard to be edgy at points.

Did anyone else watch this show? The two-part pilot was surprisingly great but the rest of season 1 varied from okay to unholy Deviantart fetish fuel, also the villain of the show became very obnoxious. Then season 2 came along and saw a vast improvement in animation on par with the pilot and they dropped some of the more cringier stuff (for the most part). Even having some very good episodes with terrific animation and sets. But then comes the final episode and its a weird mess of pointlessness that ends on a fucking cliffhanger alluding to some super adventure arc that never happens because the show gets cancelled. So any thoughts on this show? If given one more season to wrap things up, would you watch it? Can this be salvaged?
>>537 I can't tell if you're writing a good shitpost or there really was a shit pacman show that you're shilling.

After all these years I can finally post this and the Garfield makeover makes it all the more perfect.
