/co/ Bunker

Rules: -Vaguely on-topic. -That's it. I'll be making some posts on other bunkers, but if you know of any other lost anons on other boards/sites, let them know this place exists as an alternative/supplement. I'm not the kind of anon who bans people for wrongthink like the last couple guys /co/ has had, so feel free to post anything /co/ related. Got an email at also.

What's Going On?

What have you been up to since the site was down and before bunkerboard was created? Is there anything you've been reading or watching? Maybe you finally made some progress on your comic or animation project?

I've been reading a bunch of obscure/nonstandard comics recently, and that includes revisiting some old webcomics I read when I was a teenager. One of these was The Webyssy - sort of a series of visual puns based on the internet landscape around the time of its creation c.2010. A literal webcomic.

I think it's an interesting time capsule, so I'll be storytiming it as best I can; sadly it only reached 16 pages, and I'm missing three of them due to not having saved the images properly.

Anyway, what are some webcomics you anons are reading or have read? Any that hold up to reread? Any guilty pleasures from the early days of webcomics when everyone and his dog had a ComicGenesis account?

Goodbye Star Wars.

It is the end of an era, the final bastion of pre-disney wars comes to an end today, and on may 4th of all days, which is appropriate i suppose. Say what you want about the Clone Wars but it was the final remnant of the old Star Wars, the bridge between the old and new, and with it's conclusion comes the conclusion of the old good ways. It was a little disappointing to be honest. The ending gave off this vibe of hopelessness and sorrow and like something good has come to an end. Which is fitting because it is true, both in their universe and in real life, so that's it, that is the end of the old Star Wars. It's gone now forever… I don't mean to sound like a dramatic soyboy faggot over a fictional universe, but yeah that is the end of pre-disney Star Wars. whether you were one of the first to see it in the theaters those 42 years ago or you grew up with the prequels It has been a wild ride and an honour anons. I know i am going to sound like a fucking cringelord for what i am about to say but i thought it would be the only proper way to sign off and say goodbye to a franchise that filled our childhoods with joy. May the force be with you, always. Thread themes.

One thing I've been doing with various Western series that got terrible dubs in my country (or didn't get here at all) is to try and watch them up until they're objectively considered good, plus at best just the following bad series.
A couple of series I've been meaning to get around to are King of the Hill and Spongebob. From what I've seen, there's quite the number of seasons, but where exactly do they stop being interesting/worth watching?
Also, do you have other series that had a similar issue, where the good episodes stopped coming after a certain series?

Did anyone else watch this show? The two-part pilot was surprisingly great but the rest of season 1 varied from okay to unholy Deviantart fetish fuel, also the villain of the show became very obnoxious. Then season 2 came along and saw a vast improvement in animation on par with the pilot and they dropped some of the more cringier stuff (for the most part). Even having some very good episodes with terrific animation and sets. But then comes the final episode and its a weird mess of pointlessness that ends on a fucking cliffhanger alluding to some super adventure arc that never happens because the show gets cancelled. So any thoughts on this show? If given one more season to wrap things up, would you watch it? Can this be salvaged?

what're you reading

I'm just curious as to what everyone's been getting into lately.

I've been meaning to read scud for years and finally did so. Didn't know Dan Harmon was involved in it. I liked the zaniness of the original run but the ending that was a decade or more delayed was sloppy and half-assed imo.

Currently I'm reading the original Bloodshot. It's a fun read for sure. The only issue is all the other tie-ins it has and the story will drop off in the issue I'm reading and it must have been finished in another series, or it'll pick up in the middle of something. The good thing about it is you don't need to know too much about what's going on.

I've been keepin up with these various new X-Men. The House of X / Powers of X was interesting and could be pretty cool as a standalone but since that is where everything new is now diverging from it's pretty weird. None of the other series #1s so far have piqued my interest.

People Who Still Read Modern Comics: How and Why?

You know, for an industry that is dying there sure is a buttload of assorted comics in every shop. The variety is so ridiculous that I just can't decide what to pick up and I usually just end up grabbing a TPB or a Manga instead. How is a guy supposed to choose between the dozen or so Spider-mans and derivatives? How about the miriad X-mens? The absolute flood of licensed comics from IDW or Boom!?
How do I commit to an ongoing when it could get cancelled before it even hits 10 issues?

My local shops pretty much only stock the big names so I don't even know where to go looking for good indies. How do you people even keep up with this shit ass hobby?

independent publishers book that have been scanned to date

So i posted a question here and reddit that mods and others seem to be confused and associating my query to 'pirating', therefore I should have elaborated since when things are not properly explained it leaves some to assume and draw conclusions: My original question: "Does anyone have or know where I can obtain the file that has a listing of all independent publishers that have been scanned to date?" My query had nothing to do with pirating, I have 35 comic books from independent publishers that are over 17 years old that I wanted to "scan", however, I did not want to scan books that have already been scanned, therefore I was looking for a list of what has already been scanned.

Meta Thread

8kun is now up, but it's beyond slow, messy and there's ugly disclaimers in every post.
No idea if the site will ever actually work or just fizzle out, though Jim does seem to have a lot of cash to throw at the project to annoy people.
If it's still run by that bipolar, MCU-fanboy of an idiot who hands out bans like candy over random rules he makes up (which he is if they restored the board at this stage), I won't be going back anyways.

Personally I enjoy the federated imageboards we have currently, the only issues are having multiple boards of the same topic to diverge users, as well as the obvious lack of users and people eventually dropping off, especially on this board.

Some things I'm thinking about are:

1: An idea that I started on /tv/ a few months ago, in which we do weekly/fortnightly comic/movie/tv show reviews as a board. (I don't do them now, Gahoole took over for me after the set up). These noticeably improved both PPH and on-topic posts instead of the usual ranting about new things.

2: Talking to webcomic writers and getting them to do AMAs or "masterclasses" (for lack of a better work). It'd be really nice if we could get bigger names like /v/ has done with proper devs, but let's stick to something in the realm of possibility at the moment.

3: Advertising; this is the one that I'll lose people on. Yes, the board has traditionally always just been drifters from /b/, /v/, /pol/ etc for the better part of 15 years. That worked back then, but since the exodus, we've been losing people ever since, and even 4/co/ died a fair bit, so that's probably just a shift in the industry as a whole. For advertising, I'm thinking word of mouth on forums (Not Reddit/Facebook/Twitter et al, I mean actual forums that somehow always stick around, like Kametsu, ToonZone etc). Obviously if people aren't keen I won't do anything, and I'd also stop if it led to degradation of the board i.e. circlejerking trash all day.

Questions to all:

>Do we want to stay on Julay/Webring (moving to other sites is a possibility obviously) or go back to 8kun when they settle from the current battering?
>Thoughts on suggestions 1, 2 and 3?
>Anything else you can think of?

Finally, I've made precisely 0 board actions since starting the board, and that's how I like imageboards run beyond blatant rule breaking and spam. As we have no rules as of yet, I'd like to keep that number as low as possible, even into the future if the board takes off and we need rules. Should anyone have any thoughts on management of the board if we stay, do let me know. I'm not the kind of person who'd be hawking over the board 24/7, so if that's what a large group of you want in moderation going forwards, I'm more than happy to give the board to someone who fits the bill and be an anon again. I only made this to try corral people so they weren't forced to go back to the useless Janitor/BO we had on 8/co/ if Jim never got his mess of a site working.

Infinity Cup

As that one anon that's been working on the Infinity Cup for all this time, I feel like the boards that were set to participate deserve a bit better than radio silence. For those that aren't caught up or need a quick rundown:
>The Infinity Cup is a virtual soccer(football[divegrass]) tournament, with its roots dating back to the earliest days of 8chan
>It takes place in Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), a virtual soccer franchise from Konami
>I took on the responsibility of organizing the 5th iteration of the Cup back at the beginning of this year
>Over months, I learned how to mod PES to put in each board's respective team and run simulated games between them
>Using pre-existing guides (many not in English) I also learned how to mod the game from an aesthetic and quality of life standpoint, including crowds, referees, stadiums, balls, and even rudimentary player models
>24 boards agreed to participate, and the Cup was scheduled to begin August 9th
>On August 4th/5th, we received word that 8chan was losing its host, the site went down relatively shortly after
>With no site and no functioning central hub, the Cup was postponed.
>I disappear for about a month
>I return in October
>We still don't have a site, but we do have a webring.
>You are here.
The whole point of this is to see if anyone still cares at this point. There was hype for the Cup. Yes, some boards cared much more than others but there 24 willing boards and we had the resources to run the Cup. I put in probably far more work on my own than any sane person should have, so I don't want this all to go to waste. That being said though, if we set a date, gather the required parties, and begin streaming the Cup and 6 people show up, I'd rather just not do it at all. I'm going around posting this on every participant board that's here on the webring and I'll try to get this up on 8kun somehow. In the meantime just post in here so I can get a sense of interest from you.

Captain SNES: The Game Masta

Can we have a Captain SNES thread? This webcomic's been running for years now, but I'm not sure if sprite comic's are /co/ material.
I love this comic though, I've been following it for 10 years and it hasn't let me down yet.

>What is Captain SNES?
Captain SNES is a spiritual successor to the campy 80's Nintendo cartoon, Captain N.
The basic premise is that instead of a pure-hearted, noble youth, this time the Power Glove called on a foul-mouthed, jaded adult.
As he journeys through Videoland he learns that the characters he cherished have developed in unexpected directions, and the deeper he digs the worse the state of Videoland appears.
The problem with destined heroes is that they're only called on when things are really looking bleak.

Things get more complicated from there with a branching narrative shared across multiple game worlds and characters.

>Why should I care about any of that gay shit though?
Because the writing is fucking insane. The writer's been going for 17 years and he hasn't forgotten a god damn thing. All sorts of clues and cryptic statements come back years after the fact to bite people in the ass.

It's a wild ride. The earlier stuff can be hard to read through with a lot of walls of text, but the payoff when something from the double-digits comes back in the 600-700 range is worth it. After the first 90 pages or so the main plot starts to pick up steam and everything gets crazier from there.
