Sony IPs 12/20/2019 (Fri) 13:54:17 No.8432 [Reply] [Last]
Sony had strong IPs that showed promise. Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Crash Bandicoot, Gravity Rush. All beloved franchises that people still play to this day. Now it's all theatrical games that are "experiences" about lesbians climbing walls. What happened? Also which is the best franchise and best game Jak Ratchet or Crash? it's ratchet and clank, best game is tod

>>8432 >What happened? Sony was the Heckler&Koch of video games. They would publish awesome stuff, the drop it like a hot potato and tell everyone who ask for it to fuck themselves. Then assholes from Commiefornia took over the company.
>>8432 Like Spyro, Sony never owned Crash. That was Universal. Why they didn't buy either down the line, being that both were practically mascots of the PS1 (which had no official Sony owned ones) and could have continued to represent them, I'm not sure, but they went multiplat instead. Sony also has a standing habit of, for better or worse, not milking their characters or even games they own past a single generation, if not just a game or two. A few that actually got into multiple generations proper being Ratchet and Clank, Arc the Lad, and Wild Arms.

What are remakes of generation six and onward games going to look like? Anonymous 05/01/2020 (Fri) 04:08:58 No.33155 [Reply] [Last]
We're approaching a time where I think we're to seeing remakes of generation six games, which is going to be weird because gameplay hasn't evolved much since this time. An example of this is Resident Evil 4, which, unlike its predecessors, doesn't have the now out-of-fashion tank controls/people conditioned on current gen games wouldn't have too much trouble adjusting to it. There aren't any details on it at the moment, but what should it and any other games going through this, look like? Will these new games start adopting new gameplay elements that we see in modern games, continue treading the line of remake/remaster limbo and just swap out assets with high definition ones similar to Shadow of the Colossus PS4 and REmake, or will we continue in the worst timeline and end up with mobile garbage and cash grabs like Snake Eater Pachinko?

>>33290 >Are you sure? It has a bit more enemies enemies than the base game and hard mode makes all of them bullet sponges and all very dangerous to your health (but gives you pistol crits) so unlike normal you can't just kill everything without thought and call it a day or bumble through without caring too much and just taking the hits, and you can't just knife2win like the remake or CV. RE2 remake does make individual enemies more dangerous by default and ion fact the default normal mode is harder as a first play than RE2 ever was but you have so much more tools to trivialize dodging encounters entirely that even upping their aggressiveness and damage output to ridiculous levels like hardcore does doesn't actually make the game that much harder and in fact if you can play normal well chances are hardcore isn't gonna faze you much or at all.
>>33293 >they are dumb action games But they arent you spastic retard, have you even looked at gameplay? Holy shit.
I'm hoping that with the RE4 remake, they change it to be more of a horror game with less action focus. I doubt that will happen, but I can dream
>>33293 >The originals force you to conserve items and tightly manage your micro inventory No, there's no planning in RE2 on normal mode, the fact that my 10y/o self ran out of healing all the time and still manged to beat the game without too much trouble is proof enough to me. RE3 is even more of a ioke, you can seriously ignore the grenade launcher entirely and not use powders and be entirely fine ammo wise even if you're killing all the nemesis encounter you run across (minus the first one because that's the only hard thing in the game unless you know how to cheese it) on hard, not even gonna bother talking about easy because the first chest has every weapon and quite a bit of ammo. >You have to be absolute reddit faggot to actually consider Nuresis at all hard, let alone harder than the originals. Where did I say they were hard as an absolute? I just said one is harder than the other, because ultimately RE in general isn't very hard, with a few exceptions.
>>33296 Yes they are you dumb faggot, imagine defending numakes. The absolute state of 8coomers. Go the fuck back.

Sequels Anonymous 05/01/2020 (Fri) 01:36:41 No.33063 [Reply] [Last]
What are some sequels that are drastically different than its predecessor? Different can be good or bad. Pic related is an obvious example. Jak and Daxter went from a collectable platformer to a somewhat grim dark near topdown shooter.

Doom 3 The game went from a 1st person shoot em up with open levels to a System Shock inspired horror twitch shooter with linear levels. I'd like it if they hadn't completely butchered the shotgun and the weapons didn't all sound and work like shit. It's quite enjoyable with mods though
>>33117 That's probably a terrible term, but I couldn't think of the correct one. The controls remind me of a top down shooter.

TF2/CSGO Source Leak Anonymous 04/28/2020 (Tue) 20:31:42 No.31026 [Reply] [Last]
You would think this board would have a thread about it, considering how big this is Somebody already wrote a lengthy OP, so I won't bother with one. Anyone here been following this? TL:DR is that a tranny cabal discord leaked out the source code of TF2 and CSGO, making the hackers unstoppable, unbannable, and essentially letting them do whatever they want, and there will be consequences for everyone involved. The leaks also implied that not only was there Episode 3 in development, it was about 90% completed, and there was even work on Episode 4 started

>>32928 >I don't get it, It appears to be a series of functions to update the colour of a model or some other object (I'm not sure what pBox means - maybe pushBox, indicating a button?) that has buttons on it. I think it might be something like the detonator in CS:GO, but I can't be sure. Anyway, what it should be is something like: >take a colour >apply that colour to every part of the model that needs it >maybe update one or two other things manually because it's legacy code But instead whoever wrote this manually updated every single thing on the model, and the "break;" at the end indicates he's inside of a loop, which raises further questions because you'd think a loop would be a good place to use something like a "for each object in ..." statement. >but I also don't program any variant of C Weak. >so I get lost as soon as people start talking about pointers. Even weaker. Pointers are very easy and very useful.
>>32352 Not as far as I can tell. Everyone seems to have come to the unspoken agreement not to use the source code out of fear that they'll get v& like the original leaker if they touch it.

Why do so many people shit on roleplayers? Anonymous 04/30/2020 (Thu) 21:02:48 No.32909 [Reply] [Last]
Many games would be infinitely better with roleplaying. I need to set something straight. Heavy RP, RPG-style RP, those roleplayers get it wrong. Casual RP, or makeshift RP, works much better for everyone. Casual RP works with gameplay, while heavy RPG-style RP tries to ignore gameplay. Heavy RP taking off from the RPG-style make a big mistake limiting what roleplay could potentially become. Why? Because with most games, roleplay could be very enjoyable, but those heavy roleplayers try to limit roleplay into this one-type sort of thing where you cannot play the game, but only focus on the characters But this OP isn't about them. Everywhere I go, roleplayers are bullied and other people pick on them. Roleplaying is social and adds immersion to gameplay. Why do faggots hate on roleplay?

>>33050 It was a slow death. The reason is probably using /tg/ code, after having played bee station I can agree that the code we were using was lacking a lot of stuff they had. More diseases, more random space areas, a spider mining cyborg, smoother running, and generally just being better no pun intended. After that people just got burned out after negroid vanished. Emus probably got him.
>>33044 At least the server's perpetually low population allowed me to figure out a good chunk of the game without giving people on the public servers an aneurysm.
Only game I ever RPed in was in the old SW Galaxies, I wasn't really into it myself I'd just sometimes come across roleplayers and play along a bit when I did, it was kinda fun and never degenerated into erp shit. Now that I think about it I guess Galaxies was pretty good for casual roleplaying since you had non-combat roles like doctors and entertainers and there wasn't much to do but chat anyway when sitting around in a bar waiting for your stress bar or whatever it was to heal.
When I was very young in the 2000s, I roleplayed a lot on Roblox. It was pretty fun, but RPing there died a horrible death as the game became more corporate -- genre filters were removed so the only games shown were FNAF simulators and other trendy bullshit, the search was really shitty, and wordfilters in-game became more and more intrusive ("Bowser" is censored for some ass-backwards reason, just as an example). I finally drifted away when they got rid of the free currency Tix to force people to spend money to get Robux. Every time I look at Youtube and see what's become of Roblox since, I die a little inside. No other game I've played gave me that spark for creative roleplay since, and I doubt there ever will be again without throwing my pride away and joining a forum or something.

"I played it on youtube" Anonymous 11/03/2019 (Sun) 21:25:36 ID: 1d127e No.3140 [Reply] [Last]
So I was forced into a conversation about video games with a normalfag at work, and you know how it is, you have to be able to blend in with them, so here I was conversing, trying to steer the conversation away from discussing the "deep complexities" of Last of Soy and such, but then he said this phrase about some game "I played it on youtube, didn't like it". Is... Is this what I think it is? Is this something that normalfags do now? They watch a walkthrough on jewtube and consider that as a game beat? If he just said "I watched it on youtube", that's bad enough but that I can understand, but the way he said "played it on youtube" made it sound as if this is some new trend they have going on, like they consider that either a viable alternative to actually playing the game or a hip new way to do it.

I guess all the talk about them wanting to remove gameplay from games isn't just a meme and this is the next evolution of gayming.

Crispy Games Anonymous 04/17/2020 (Fri) 14:50:29 No.27464 [Reply] [Last]
This isn't about the quality of a game as a game, I'm talking about that one moment where you feel as if the developer has considered every little detail no matter the obscurity. When you perform an action as a joke or completely by unintentionally and discover that it is possible, or where menus, options, even sound cues, are organized in a way that is the most cognitively ergonomic and you feel as if it couldn't be done any better given the circumstances of its development. These games can have any sort of learning curve, whether it's equivalent to mobile garbage or simulators and 4X, so long as none of your irritation stem from unintuitive design decisions. If you don't have anything because you only play Eurojank like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Gothic, or ARMA, think about how they could be improved while keeping the core or the games intact.

I'm really not sure if crispy is the right word for it, but I absolutely love System Shock and would love to see a true successor to it mechanically and thematically. The controls may feel dated map design is labyrinthine, but I still consider it to be one of the best games of all time because of how integrated everything is into the world. It's one of those games that I feel that anyone who wants to be a game developer absolutely must play because it has inspired me more than anything else besides maybe Elite II. It may take you time to get acclimated to it, but when you drop it come back to it in a few months when you're in a better state of mind. That's the thing about DOS games, they only look intimidating because it's from a time long before convenience, but they're immensely rewarding to play.
>>28002 >Warband's combat is the definition of crisp combat, what you see is what you get. Its a very basic concept. Come the fuck on, it's janky and you know it. I know people like Mount & Blade but the combat is perfunctory, not crisp.
