We're approaching a time where I think we're to seeing remakes of generation six games, which is going to be weird because gameplay hasn't evolved much since this time. An example of this is Resident Evil 4, which, unlike its predecessors, doesn't have the now out-of-fashion tank controls/people conditioned on current gen games wouldn't have too much trouble adjusting to it. There aren't any details on it at the moment, but what should it and any other games going through this, look like? Will these new games start adopting new gameplay elements that we see in modern games, continue treading the line of remake/remaster limbo and just swap out assets with high definition ones similar to Shadow of the Colossus PS4 and REmake, or will we continue in the worst timeline and end up with mobile garbage and cash grabs like Snake Eater Pachinko?

What are some sequels that are drastically different than its predecessor? Different can be good or bad. Pic related is an obvious example. Jak and Daxter went from a collectable platformer to a somewhat grim dark near topdown shooter.

Doom 3 The game went from a 1st person shoot em up with open levels to a System Shock inspired horror twitch shooter with linear levels. I'd like it if they hadn't completely butchered the shotgun and the weapons didn't all sound and work like shit. It's quite enjoyable with mods though

You would think this board would have a thread about it, considering how big this is Somebody already wrote a lengthy OP, so I won't bother with one. Anyone here been following this? TL:DR is that a tranny cabal discord leaked out the source code of TF2 and CSGO, making the hackers unstoppable, unbannable, and essentially letting them do whatever they want, and there will be consequences for everyone involved. The leaks also implied that not only was there Episode 3 in development, it was about 90% completed, and there was even work on Episode 4 started

Many games would be infinitely better with roleplaying. I need to set something straight. Heavy RP, RPG-style RP, those roleplayers get it wrong. Casual RP, or makeshift RP, works much better for everyone. Casual RP works with gameplay, while heavy RPG-style RP tries to ignore gameplay. Heavy RP taking off from the RPG-style make a big mistake limiting what roleplay could potentially become. Why? Because with most games, roleplay could be very enjoyable, but those heavy roleplayers try to limit roleplay into this one-type sort of thing where you cannot play the game, but only focus on the characters But this OP isn't about them. Everywhere I go, roleplayers are bullied and other people pick on them. Roleplaying is social and adds immersion to gameplay. Why do faggots hate on roleplay?

Only game I ever RPed in was in the old SW Galaxies, I wasn't really into it myself I'd just sometimes come across roleplayers and play along a bit when I did, it was kinda fun and never degenerated into erp shit. Now that I think about it I guess Galaxies was pretty good for casual roleplaying since you had non-combat roles like doctors and entertainers and there wasn't much to do but chat anyway when sitting around in a bar waiting for your stress bar or whatever it was to heal.
When I was very young in the 2000s, I roleplayed a lot on Roblox. It was pretty fun, but RPing there died a horrible death as the game became more corporate -- genre filters were removed so the only games shown were FNAF simulators and other trendy bullshit, the search was really shitty, and wordfilters in-game became more and more intrusive ("Bowser" is censored for some ass-backwards reason, just as an example). I finally drifted away when they got rid of the free currency Tix to force people to spend money to get Robux. Every time I look at Youtube and see what's become of Roblox since, I die a little inside. No other game I've played gave me that spark for creative roleplay since, and I doubt there ever will be again without throwing my pride away and joining a forum or something.

So I was forced into a conversation about video games with a normalfag at work, and you know how it is, you have to be able to blend in with them, so here I was conversing, trying to steer the conversation away from discussing the "deep complexities" of Last of Soy and such, but then he said this phrase about some game "I played it on youtube, didn't like it". Is... Is this what I think it is? Is this something that normalfags do now? They watch a walkthrough on jewtube and consider that as a game beat? If he just said "I watched it on youtube", that's bad enough but that I can understand, but the way he said "played it on youtube" made it sound as if this is some new trend they have going on, like they consider that either a viable alternative to actually playing the game or a hip new way to do it.

I guess all the talk about them wanting to remove gameplay from games isn't just a meme and this is the next evolution of gayming.

This isn't about the quality of a game as a game, I'm talking about that one moment where you feel as if the developer has considered every little detail no matter the obscurity. When you perform an action as a joke or completely by unintentionally and discover that it is possible, or where menus, options, even sound cues, are organized in a way that is the most cognitively ergonomic and you feel as if it couldn't be done any better given the circumstances of its development. These games can have any sort of learning curve, whether it's equivalent to mobile garbage or simulators and 4X, so long as none of your irritation stem from unintuitive design decisions. If you don't have anything because you only play Eurojank like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Gothic, or ARMA, think about how they could be improved while keeping the core or the games intact.

I'm really not sure if crispy is the right word for it, but I absolutely love System Shock and would love to see a true successor to it mechanically and thematically. The controls may feel dated map design is labyrinthine, but I still consider it to be one of the best games of all time because of how integrated everything is into the world. It's one of those games that I feel that anyone who wants to be a game developer absolutely must play because it has inspired me more than anything else besides maybe Elite II. It may take you time to get acclimated to it, but when you drop it come back to it in a few months when you're in a better state of mind. That's the thing about DOS games, they only look intimidating because it's from a time long before convenience, but they're immensely rewarding to play.
