i think the real question is how the fuck would one make a modern beat em up at all
if you go too trad with the whole layout/feel, youll end up, at best, standing in the shadows of the old greats. a situation where most will end up playing it a couple times, then simply going back to their old favorites.
they could try to get a little more complex with it
>upgrades/unlockables after beating various difficulties/collecting points a la SoRemake
>more special moves
>more than just 3 characters
>challenge modes a la the old MK games
>online and couch co-op
theres a lot of things that the old games probably wanted
to do, but couldnt due to memory/tech limitations.
some of these things above worked pretty damn well with the fan remake, but im skeptical that these new devs could ever have as much passion as a literal passion project
ive always had this idea that, now that both players and devs are more familiar with utilizing slightly more complex button combos, and the controllers have more buttons on them in general, that something like that shitty batman forever game or the similar sub-zero one i cant remember the name of
could be pulled off.
